Ecoalf, my most recent sustainable fashion discovery

Since its inception in 2009, Javier Goyeneche made his mission to show the world a natural way of using clothes. Under the motto #BecauseThereIsNoPlanetB, his brand, Ecoalf, symbolizes what he believes the fabrics and products of the new generations really are. By using breakthrough technology Ecoalf delivers clothes and accessories made entirely from recycled materials, and guess what? The quality is truly amazing.

I first encountered this brand while talking to Spanish designer Maria Escoté, she was telling me about this great national (Spain) brand that was making a difference in her country... the true pioneer of sustainable fashion back home. So, naturally, I started investigating a bit more, and during a quick getaway that I made to Madrid I visited their flagship store on the recognized Hortaleza street.

The store not only portrays the essence of the brand: wellbeing, natural and truthful in its decoration, but each piece has a thoroughly self-explained tag of what the piece is made out of, the % of water use for its production, and its Forest Stewardship Council stamp of approval. In essence, they are not only presenting you with specially designed basic must have pieces, but teaching you the real value of what you put on your back.

Sustainable fashion is not a choice anymore… it’s an obligation to us all. Sometimes we can have the misconception of being a “hippie” thing or that only the new niche luxury brands are doing it so it’s expensive… and this is not the case. Do the proper research of the brands available / close to you, check the prices, go try the pieces on, learn from the fibers being used in each… ask for when they have a sale, get involved in the movement! And revisit again…

Please please please stop the constant buying of fast fashion… The massive consumption and overproduction has made the fashion industry is one of the top most polluting and environmental harmful industries in the world. Take a few minutes and learn what the consequences really are, what you are giving your money to and the actual cost of fast fashion. (Check out this article!) Little by little, your purchase choices will have an effect, have a balance in your life and in your wardrobe as well.

TIP: Start with purchasing that go to t-shirt, or a proper vest or rain jacket that you´ll start using for fall. Being my first time in the store I decided to get a basic T, and I loved the freshness of the cotton mixed with the Tencel fibers, the color as well was very unique, and just by the fact that I was wearing something that was making a difference, made me feel much more special! Now that I am inspired and convinced with the brand’s quality, for sure I know I am investing and being a part of a good initiative.
